NOTICE:

The South Dakota Department of Public Safety adopts the International Building Code, 2015 edition; International Fire Code, 2015 edition; and the International Mechanical Code, 2015 edition as modified in the South Dakota Administrative Rules, Chapter 61:15:01.

The South Dakota Codified Laws, Chapter 11-10 Building Codes and Standards states that if a local unit of government adopts any standards for new construction, it shall comply with the 2021 edition of the International Building Code. If a local unit of government has not adopted any standards for new construction, they must follow the 2021 edition of the International Building Code. South Dakota also adopts the 2009 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code as the voluntary standard applying to the construction of new residential buildings. If the governing body of any local unit of government adopts any ordinance prescribing standards for maintenance of existing structures and premises, the ordinance shall comply with the 2021 edition of the International Property Maintenance Code.
